Have a great day…if you want to

Who do you want to be?

It’s only six words in the form of an unassuming question, but in those six words can be found the key to unlocking anything you want in this world. It’s a lofty statement, but there’s reason to believe that those six words are the key to life itself.

Who do you want to be?

New Florida State football head coach Willie Taggart has a saying that he’s known for, a saying that was passed down to him by an old, wise football coach back when he was coaching at Western Kentucky.

“Have a great day…if you want to,” the saying goes.

The story goes that when Taggart was coaching at WKU the aforementioned old, wise coach would silently watch practice, taking it all in. When practice was done the older coach would approach Taggart, offer him one of those hard candies the older generation has become famous for and utter these wise, potentially life-changing words.

“Hey coach, go have a great day if you want to.”

The secret to that statement is so simple it almost hits you across the head. It’s so simple that it’s almost hard to see if you’re not paying attention.

Have a great day, or not. The choice is yours.

Who do you want to be?

One of the great secrets of life is that you, yes you, are completely in control of who you are. No, you can’t control people around you and you certainly can’t control 99-percent of the circumstances in life, but you can control your response.

You can control your attitude, your reactions. You can control what you do and how you do it. You can control whether or not you have a great day, and ultimately, you can control who you want to be.

Be. Do. Have.

Be positive, no matter the circumstances. Do your best in every situation. Have a great day.

If you want.
